  • British English, ESL, Grammar, IELTS, Speaking English
Native English Tutor with 10 years of experience.
Hi, my name is Paul and my job is to help you improve your English and Math. I am from the UK, which is where I got my Degree in English language and literature from, and I’ve been working as an English and Math teacher here in Singapore for 10 years. Before completing my Degree course, I was an Engineer for 2 years. I have worked with all different ages across many different nationalities. By working in both tuition centers and international schools, I have learned many different ways of teaching, and have used them to create interesting, fun and engaging lessons, for kids and adults. Whatever your needs are, I am able to design, plan, prep and teach you the necessary criteria. Over the years, I’ve helped many children and adults, turning their weakest areas in English and Math, into one of their strengths I have worked with all major criteria revolving around the ages between 8 and 18, this covers PSLE, IGCSE, SAT and SSAT tests. I have students who go to UWC, SAS, SAIS, Dulwich college, etc and also local MOE schools. With my adult students, they provide me what it is they wish to improve on, and we work together in reaching their goals. Over the years, I have had many happy students who were able to reach their personal educational goals, but there is one in particular which stands out the most. I helped a Japanese man with his English for 3 years, as his company required him to obtain a certain level in his TOEIC test. If he failed, his whole family had to be relocated back to Japan. Not only did he pass, but he was promoted and was offered a new role in America. Some advice when learning English, don’t be too hard on yourself. You may set yourself goals which are way beyond your reach, for now. Instead, give yourself little goals to reach, such as: learning the lyrics to your favourite songs, or understand what’s being said in a movie you like. Learning a language is like a journey, take it and be amazed on what you discover.

Experienced and dedicated English tutor.
Having graduated from NUS with a degree in English Literature (Hons) in 2016, I have been tutoring for three years full-time (five years as an undergraduate part-time). On average, my students have improved by two grades. I only provide tuition on a pay-per-lesson basis. I am typically described as a highly energetic and motivated tutor who will source useful teaching materials and ensure that students genuinely engage in class, instead of being spoon-fed. Although I am not professionally trained by the government (not MOE-trained), I consider myself a serious and goal-oriented tutor. I personally believe that education should not simply be about attaining straight As, although that is definitely crucial. It is also about viewing the world through an insightful lens, which is what literature can do. Education is about cultivating critical and independent thinking and encouraging students to find their own voice.

  • Business English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Writing Comprehension, Writing Expression
Tutored English at all levels, especially by providing hands-on activities for over 10 years.
Keeping Lessons Simple and Practical For beginners, I focus on functional language they can use immediately like greetings, introductions, basic questions, etc. rather than abstract vocabulary lists. Using visuals, gestures, and repetition to reinforce key phrases and concepts. Making it Interactive Incorporated activities that get the student practising speaking, like role-plays, skits, conversations, and games. This makes lessons more engaging and helps build their confidence. Acted out dialogues together and have the student repeat key phrases. By Giving Clear Feedback: Gently corrected mistakes as they occur, especially with pronunciation and grammar. Provided encouragement and celebrate their successes. Used Varied Materials: In addition to textbooks, using authentic materials like songs, videos, books, and news articles to expose them to real-world English usage. Tailored materials to their interests when possible. Taken Notes and Reviewed: Kept a log of what I covered in each lesson and areas that need more work. By Reviewing previous concepts frequently to reinforce learning: The key is making lessons interactive, practical, and tailored to the individual student's needs and goals for learning English.

Ivy League lawyer tutoring English.
- 37 year old Singaporean. - Proud alumnus of a top ranking Law School at a leading Australian university, part of the esteemed 'Group of Eight' (equivalent to the Ivy League in the US). - Ranked Number 1: Top undergraduate law school in Australia according to the 2021 QS World University Rankings. - Ranked Number 1: Top undergraduate law school in Australia according to the 2021 Times Higher Education. - Also holds a business degree from the same prestigious institution. - Lived in Australia for over 10 years. - Completed the Western Australian Year 12 curriculum (equivalent to A Levels in Singapore) scoring 'A' grades in all subjects relevant for the Tertiary Entrance Ranking calculation, achieving a score of 94.5%. - Passionate about education. Having a 2 year old son, i've decided to take some time off the corporate environment, and focus on my tutoring skills across a wide range of subjects. While a good education correlates with excellent academic performance, a good education is also much more than that. I emphasise deeper learning, ensuring that academic skills and knowledge are deeply rooted, applicable, and beneficial to students throughout their lives Leaning is more than memorisation or plug and play, it is more than just scoring good marks in exams only to forget most of it shortly after. Sustainable learning rests on having an insatiable curiosity to discover, improve upon the status quo, and endlessly pursue and compound knowledge. Having that innate quality also allows students to proactively, willingly and continuously learn in a self-driven way, without being told to do so. As such, teachers being stewards of each child's education, have a responsibility to do more. Teachers ought to ensure that students cherish the academic skills bequeathed today, develop a deep intellectual curiosity, pursue independent and self-driven learning, so that these skills can be applied throughout their academic lives and careers.
